REGULAR readers of the Chronic will be used to us “trash-talking” our local councils.
It’s because our overpaid Council Directors appear LITTER-ally useless at delivering even the basics.
In a shocky horror revelation, not ONE person has been fined for littering in Barrow in the past THREE years.
That’s right — ZERO fines for dropping litter.
It took a Freedom of Information request to finally expose that Councillors are very good at talking rubbish but aren’t so keen on stopping people actually dropping it.
The F.o.I revealed that Wokemoreland & Farcical Council – run by the Lib Dems – has not issued a single fixed penalty notice for littering ever since it took charge back on 1st April 2023.
But neither did its predecessor, Barrow Borough Council, when it was run by Labour the year before (2022-23).

None of this, er, truth, prevented the Barrow Labour group on W&F from crying into their megaphones that the new W&F Council is NOT DOING ENOUGH to combat litter!
This cock-eyed nonsense was then backed up by new Barrow Labour MP Michelle ‘Scrogerm’ who also shot off a letter of her own – conveniently blind to the shortcomings of the Council when it was run by her own Party.
Meanwhile, the former Eden and South Lakeland Clowncils managed to cough up “less than five” fines a year over this period.
It looks like Local Government Disorganisation here in Crumbria led to litter enforcement at our Councils taking a holiday.
On April 1 this year — fittingly, April Fools’ Day — Wokemoreland Council finally sprang into action with a massive clean-up.
With the Council’s arse going like a windsock, what motivated its sudden concern for litter?
Could it have been the arrival of the awkward Freedom of Information request and the prospect of negative headlines?
We’ll never know…but SOMETHING forced the Clowncil to act.
When Councils are hiking Council Tax and paying directors more than £100,000 a year yet can’t issue a single fine for dropping litter, it’s not just a small minority running wild… it’s open season for local litter louts to do what the frig they want.
Meanwhile, W&F is misdirecting important resources by entertaining the Liberal Democrat delusion that the Council can get to Net Zero quicker and faster than anywhere else in the rest of the country!
Back in the real world, the rats in Barrovia are dining out.
