CRUMBRIA: 30/04/2025: EXCLUSIVE
THE News & Scar newspaper in Carlisle plunged to a new low tonight as part of its slo-mo collapse.
The former tabloid greats published another of their manufactured clickbait stories; evidently dashed off by one of its web-trawling ‘Churnalists’.
The must-click article – with a glorious photo – was predictably headlined: “Three Hidden Lake District Pools Among The UK’s best swimming spots”.
With the sun finally putting on his hat today in Cumbria, the article was accompanied by this rather refreshing photograph (below).

“Lakes, rivers and pools are abundant across Cumbria, but where are the hidden gems?” the photo caption teased readers.
The Chronic didn’t instantly recognise this Lake District waterfall and clicked.
(How many other mugs did the same!)
Lake District visitors might need to pack an overnight bag if they want to use this plunge pool…because a short online search has now established that the photo the paper used actually shows Banyumala Waterfall in the jungle-clad Munduk region of Bali!
(A mere 7,700 miles away or 20 hours by long-haul flight.)
Mistakes are inevitable on newspapers, but it’s rare for the local rag to get the wrong HEMISPHERE.
Maybe this is now policy? Pass off photos of The Tropics as photos of the Lake District to reel in the gullible scroller so that the Churnalist inflates their Page Views to claim a big fat juicy bonus?

What’s coming next? A feature about “Hidden Scottish Castles” using photos of Hogwarts?
With Bank Holiday weekend on the way, let’s pray that no impressionable young tourists plunge off a jagged Lake District cliff edge trying to locate the Carlisle newspaper’s mythical and misleading local waterfall.
The Chronic is off now for a cold bath and a deep spiritual meditation on the need for higher journalistic standards, even on our comics.
