CRUMBRIA: 21.08.2025
IN her dreary and cliché-ridden column for the Evening Snail — of interest mainly to Labour cult members — Barrow MP Michelle Scrogerm places great faith in oily know-it-all Wes Streeting MP.
Scrogerm reports, breathlessly, that the Health Secretary is taking a “keen interest” in the slow death of Furness General Hospital; all under Labour’s watch, by the way!
“Keen interest” is one of those phrases politicians use to sound busy while doing nothing at all.
Has Streeting picked up the phone about the ICU decision? Written a letter? Leant on anyone?
Scrogerm doesn’t say!
And the piss poor Evening Snail doesn’t ask — despite running a Save Our ICU campaign in the same paper.
The column runs to 500 words and advances the story by exactly zero.
It’s worth remembering that Streeting is among the slickest operators in Keirnocchio’s cabinet.
Ambition and slogans first. Detail later.
That Scrogerm appears impressed tells you more about her than him.
Her words may wash in the Labour WhatsApp groups, but they don’t land with ordinary readers watching services quietly disappear.
And the more the MP talks, the more she looks like a fish out of water. An overpromoted local councillor springs to mind.
Electoral Calculus now gives Reform a 64% chance of taking the Barrow and Furness seat — and we’re barely a year in.
If the hospital downgrade doesn’t finish her, something will.
Quite possibly, Barrow’s out-of-control HMOs or the failure to compensate the WASPI women.
