A RATHER revealing post from Reform UK’s Carlisle branch reaches the Chronic shedding light on what looks like a membership kerfuffle.

The out-of-nowhere rallying cry on Facebook raises more questions than it answers.

A tad over-reliant on military language, it manages to make an internal tiswas sound like the fall of Singapore.

The Reform Carlisle page told its 989 followers: “To anyone who is wobbling right now: steady yourselves. Do not jump ship. Stand your ground and hold the line.”

Reading between the, er, lines, it’s a plea for members to stay with the Nigel Farage Fan Club (President: N. Farage) and not drift towards former fan favourite Rupert Lowe.

Whether that amounts to a fear of a walkout in Carlisle Reform is not explicitly said.

But it reads like a post written by officials who strongly suspect that some of their number are kicking open the fire doors in the rush to get out.

The line demanding that: “HQ… stop trying to dictate from the centre” is especially revealing.

It’s one thing to grumble about Head Office in private. It is another to trumpet it all over Facebook.

But we’ve always had a soft spot for wild cards with a lack of party discipline.

Unhelpfully, the post was illustrated with an AI image of Carlisle city centre with a misspelt hospital sign — not a great look for those roaring about “proper national infrastructure”.

With a month to go before local elections elsewhere, meddling kids, Full Fact, the supposedly ‘independent’ fact-checking charity, rushed out an exclusive that Reform councils did not cut Council Tax — they increased it.

Just not by quite as much as councils run by Labour, the Conservatives or the Lib Dems.

Which is not quite the same as cutting Council Tax — in the same way paying something off slowly is not the same as paying less.

The Chronic has previously warned that anyone who believes that Reform UK are going to stroll into Downing Street, click their fingers and wind the clock back 50 years, probably needs to wake-up and smell the Mellow Birds.

And anyone so excited by a Restore Britain government that they can barely sleep, should also keep a very strong dose of smelling salts close to hand.
