CRUMBRIA: 10.7.2026
WOKEMORELAND Clowncil continues to lose friends and alienate people.
Especially in the LA14 postcode.
Not content with bulldozing The Forum in Barrow without a plan to replace it, the Council is now washing its hands of the Nan Tait Centre on Abbey Road.
It’s been deemed “surplus to requirements” with plans to palm it off to the community to take on its huge costs.
Yet at the other end of the same Council patch, money to improve Council buildings seems much easier to find.

The Council is looking at £6m plans to redevelop the long-empty Penrith Town Hall.
The historic Council building could be adapted to create up to 120 seats for ‘performances, exhibitions, and events’ – rather like what Barrow is losing!

The politics at play here is as plain as plums on a pitbull.
The wily Lib Dem dictatorship running the Council knows it is free to make any decision it likes in Barrow.
The party has no councillors in Barrow to lose at the ballot box, nor is it likely to win any at next year’s local elections.

Its power centre is Tim Farron Land — Kendal, Penrith and the Lakes.
That’s where all its high-ranking Councillors are and that’s where loyal Lib Dem voters live.
It’s these that must be kept on side if the Lib Dems are to keep control of W&F Council for another four years next summer; which they most certainly will.
So basically, in some minds at least, Barrow can Foxtrot Oscar.

In the W&F Council elections in 2022, across Barrow and Dalton’s seven wards, 19 council seats were up for grabs. This how it went down:
