CRUMBRIA: 27/02/2026
A Green Party proposal urging a Town Council to formally criticise the Labour Government was rejected by, er, Labour councillors.
Green councillor Judy Filmore had urged Ulverston Town councillors to fire off a stern letter to the Government accusing it of multi-million-pound cuts to Westmorland & Furness Council, which will necessitate another unhelpful rise in local Council Tax.
However, Labour comrades were not persuaded and crushed the rebellious Green proposal.

Councillor Filmore, quite possibly red with anger, told The Evening Snail: “It is disappointing that Labour members of Ulverston Town Council have chosen to side with their Government, rather than local residents.”
(Labour, you see, has long held a super majority around the Council table in Ulverston, so what they want, they get.)
But why might a small town council be afraid to criticise the Government? After all, Wokemoreland & Farcical Council will be £43 million worse off under Labour in the next three years, according to the Lib Dems?
Omitted from the article by the Evening Snail and perhaps unrelated to the vote is that Michelle Scrogerm, the Labour MP for Barrow and Furness, is still listed as a sitting councillor on, er, Ulverston Town Council.

The Chronic can confirm she didn’t make it to this week’s meeting, nor did she play any role in the vote.
But when she does manage to attend Council meetings, it can be something of a family occasion.
A pair of the MP’s nearest and dearest also serve as Labour councillors on Ulverston Town Council to help ensure a Scrogerm voice is fully represented around the table.
Lo and behold, the MP’s husband and daughter were among the red block strongly disinclined to support the impertinent suggestion of criticising the Labour Government and helped vote it down.
Keep the red flag flying, comrades!
