CRUMBRIA: 02.04.2026
FORMER Crumbrian MP Rory Stewart has leapt to the defence of the Religion That Can’t Be Criticised™.
In a brave and stunning intervention, the Cuban-heeled metropolitan trendy played the old race card.
“I think we’ve got to be very clear that this is basically racism,” said Stewart, the former Lib Dem Conservative MP for Penrith and the Border.
He added: “All those people on social media who are talking about ‘Judeo-Christian values’, and saying, ‘I’ve got nothing against people of colour, I just don’t like Islam’, are basically racist.”
(Everybody on social media is wrong, except me – shocker.)
Stewart went on to explain that it’s “completely demented” to single out the religion of peace, because people do “horrible things” in the name of other religions.
But in a superb take down of his remarks, a national newspaper critic cuttingly observed:
“The thing is, they don’t do terribly many of them in this country, do they?
“Which is probably why we don’t see ‘all those people on social media’ fretting that Britain will suffer yet another massive terror attack by Buddhists…”

Rory was considerably less charitable in his best selling book about his time in Afghanistan, where he felt very acutely that “I represented a culture that many of them hated.”
He went on to observe that some of the heavily-bearded brethren that he encountered were, er: “Greedy, idle, stupid, hypocritical, insensitive, mendacious, ignorant and cruel.”
(They should stand as an MP!)
We’re not convinced that Rory, an old Etonian, has ever had much of a finger on the pulse.
In the run-up to the 2024 American presidential election, he was foaming at the mouth on X that Joe Biden’s term of office had been “solid” and Harris would win “comfortably”.
Placing a big bet on Kamala’s inevitable victory, by the time the sun came up on November 6, Rory was having to do a humbling round of media interviews to justify his piss poor political astrology.
Many Conservative ground troops in Eden, Cumbria, remember only too bitterly the hours of leg work they put in to help Rory win the Penrith seat three times in a row.
By way of thanks, Rory kicked up an almighty fuss about leaving the EU and tried to force the Tories to wriggle out of Brexit – overlooking the fact that 53% of his constituents had voted leave.
The much-hailed political sage of our times seems to completely disregard what the ‘little people’ have to say.
