RED-faces all round at Lib Dem-run Wokemoreland & Farcical Council after Voreda House – the council’s shiny new eco palace in Penrith – was FLOODED following heavy rain.
Known locally as “The Shite House”, the £8.3 million building will remain shut for the foreseeable, having only opened last summer.
Along with ground-floor flooding, the first floor of the eco palace now comes with an indoor water feature.
Bizarrely, council staff quickly closed all the blinds on the first floor – presumably to conceal the damage from any 15-foot-tall passersby.
The public verdict has been merciless.

Residents have branded it “a white elephant”, “an absolute embarrassment”, “a shambles”, and “a flagrant waste of taxpayers’ money”.
A prominent local businessman in Penrith has called for an inquiry into what he described as a “fiasco”.
Council Taxpayers are reminded that Voreda House cost three times its original budget and was more than three years behind schedule.
The site was bought for £900,000 when it was valued at £785,000, and the building itself is reportedly worth just £2.3 million.
Public meetings have previously been moved out of the main chamber because people couldn’t hear what was being said due to the thick insulation.
There have also been claims of staff propping open doors even in winter because the building is so hot, and the council had to apply to itself to install a diesel backup generator in case the ecosystems fail.
When it finally opened in June 2024, council PR hailed the building as “fit for purpose”.
Meanwhile, the old Penrith Town Hall — abandoned for this eco ivory tower — is now being eyed by the Council as another development project.
Why Lib Dem councillors and directors should be trusted with another multi-million-pound vanity project is known only to them.
