AS humanity teeters on the brink of World War Three, Carlisle Labour MP Julie Minns has been keeping herself busy by doing the, er, cha-cha-cha.
Amid strictly serious global events, she was busting some moves in Westminster as 40 MPs sashayed along with Strictly Come Dancing stars.
(In the week of ‘Epic Fury’, the spectacle of MPs chucking shapes has caused an almighty hellbroth.)
Not widely regarded as someone light on her feet, it showed another side to the MP.
But as a former Spin Doctoress, you’d have thought ‘Julez’ would have kept her head down.
But no. With the appalling lack of self-awareness that we’ve come to know and loathe from the Labour Government, there she was.
Clearly visible behind broadcaster Angela Rippon and Sir Lindsay Hoyle, speaker of t’House and a professional northerner.
Of course, the optics couldn’t have looked worse.
As Keirnocchio flounders with a large-scale international crisis, his MPs are ballroom prancing for the cameras.
News of the Carlisle MP’s cardio-sesh hasn’t been universally welcomed in the city either.
Alleged Carlisle newspaper, the News & Shrug, had given the story a very light-touch page three treatment rather than getting straight on the phone to the MP’s office and demanding: “What the hell are you doing?”
Instead, the tanking tabloid told readers: “Dance can be such a valuable tool to get people healthy!”
But as the red angry face emojis began to rack up on Facebook, Scroogequest staff quietly “limited who can comment on this post”.
Judging by some of the comments left on its website, you get the impression Carlisle voters can’t wait to cha-cha-CHANGE MP.
