CRUMBRIA: 1.4.2026
NINETEEN short days ago, Kendal-based Lib Dem eco-preacher Cllr Giles Archibald told taxpayers in a Council press release: “We understand this won’t be popular.”
He was talking about the Lib Dem dictatorship’s decision to slap a new £60 charge on residents wanting their garden waste collected across Wokemoreland & Farcical.
From summer, over-taxed households must stump up a £60 “subscription fee” to get a Council sticker identifying their bin for collection.

No sticker, no garden waste removal, says the Council.
But it’s as plain as balls on a bulldog what’s going to happen.
Faced with paying extra, residents will simply dump their grass cuttings and hedge clippings in with general refuse instead, possibly concealed in a plastic bin bag.
And what headaches might all this cause for hard-working waste handlers are the sorting end?
Furthermore, anyone needing two green bins will have to fork out £25 for the second.

Cllr Archiballs – on a feverish one-man crusade to single-handedly save the planet – has said that taking away garden waste for free every fortnight is bad for the environment because it involves driving around in lorries using fuel.
And now, from Epping Forest District Council in Essex, comes news of an identical row.
“Stop the unfair £60 garden waste charge!” shouts a bristling campaign and petition against plans by the wicked Tory-run Council there.
The agitators of this grassroots uprising? Er, the Liberal Democrat opposition on the Essex council!
In Epping, £60 is an unfair Tory tax. In Wokemoreland, £60 is a way residents can protect the environment.
Interestingly, the Lib Dems dahn sarf reckon that a £60 charge is £20 OVER what it actually costs the Council to deliver the service.
Time for one of our ‘trusted local newspaper’ sleuths to investigate, surely?

NOTE: Fed-up residents will be taking part in a Penrith Green Bin Walk on Easter Saturday where they’ll drag their green wheelie bins to Voreda House, the Council’s troubled net-zero HQ.
