CRUMBRIA: 20.6.2026
A RARE outbreak of journalism this week at The Crumbling News, Carlisle.
This week’s edition reveals that Crumberland Council is owed £26m in unpaid Council Tax – and has been writing some of it off.
(Wokemoreland & Farcical Clowncil are owed £15m, adds Penrith Town News.)

It may explain, in part, why your bill goes up every year by the maximum allowed without a public referendum.
19,500 householders in Crumberland get £20m of help from the Council with their bills.
Labour-daft Crumberland Council already has to find £32m of savings this year to balance the books, while the Lib Dem dictatorship of Wokemoreland has to find £40m over the next three.

Not mentioned by The Crumbling News was this:
In April alone this year, Crumberland Council handed over £26,000 to, er, Newsquest Media Group Ltd — the penny-pinching profiteers behind the abysmal News & Shrug and The Crumbling News.
At today’s prices, £26,000 easily pays for the salary of a young unsupervised churnalist, with change left over for a half-day course in trawling TripAdvisor for “stories” and cutting-and-pasting Council press releases.

The Council made 40 payments to the newspaper group in April for advertising and printing costs.
This is the same newspaper group that is now warning readers on page one that “increasing costs are placing a strain” on the Council’s budget.
Costs that voracious advertising-space salesmen at Scroogequest are only too happy to winkle out of the “cash-strapped Council”.
Our Councils urgently need to develop a tightness that would make a cat’s arse look like the Channel Tunnel.
