CRUMBRIA: 16.7.2026
LABOUR councillors in Crumbria have just voted down a cost-of-living strategy for people struggling.
Carlisle Lib Dems wanted Labour-daft Crumberland Council to come up with a cost-of-living plan for the hard-up.
But when it came to a show of hands, the Labour Group took grave exception and used its superior numbers in the chamber to vote it down.
Why?

Don’t ask tanking Carlisle tabloid, the News & Shrug.
All the alleged “newspaper” managed to get on record was that the Labour Group was “opposed” — with no explanation whatsoever.
The motion was hardly a socialist revolution.

“We asked the Labour-run council to develop a cost-of-living strategy to help local people. It is disappointing that Labour councillors refused to support us on this,” a baffled Lib Dem leader, Cllr Tim Pickstone, told the former “newspaper” afterwards.
Odd how the Lib Dems managed to collar the paper after the vote, but the paper could not summon one awkward question for Labour — the largest group on the Council and the party in power.
Labour may have had a perfectly legitimate reason for voting against. Maybe the hard-up Council is already doing enough to help people.
It just wasn’t given an opportunity to explain its side of the story.
It’s why we call it the News & Shrug and it’s why the paper are favourites to win Cumbria’s Biggest Idiot of the Year competition.
