CRUMBRIA: 25.7.2026
THERE’S a bit of a kerfuffle in Carlisle.
Labour-daft Crumberland Council has trousered £1.4m off the Government towards “improving” 15 temporary family homes.
It’s now come out that 10 of them are being specially reserved for, er, “Afghan resettlement families.”

Carlisle area Tory councillor, Gareth Ellis, is not exactly doing cartwheels.
He told the News & Shrug that the short-of-dosh Council may have to match-fund, meaning it could all end up costing local taxpayers another £1.5m.
Council press officers did not address that point in its response.

Instead, it has insisted they’re not just giving away free houses to every Tom, Dick and Abdul who rocks up in Carlisle with a suitcase and Home Office lanyard.
It says the homes are for families linked to the Afghan Resettlement Programme — people who helped UK forces on the ground in hell holes like Helmand.
In other words, the sort of people left well and truly up Shit Creek when coalition forces withdrew and the Taliban stormed back into power waving AK-47s and unveiling controversial plans for “collaborators.”
The previous Conservative government, of course, established the Afghan Resettlement Programme.

Robert Jenrick MP, now safely recycled as a big beast for Reform UK, told Parliament three years ago, that the Tory Government was providing “£285 million of new funding to local authorities supporting the Afghan Resettlement Programme.”
The big distinction that Crumberland Council is making is that the houses in Carlisle are NOT for general asylum seekers.
Yet four weeks ago, the Labour-run Council was openly reporting that Council officers were supporting the “Refugee, Evacuee and Migration Board” in its efforts to “secure safe and healthy accommodation.”

The same thrilling Council document publicly stated that the Council had “embedded” one of its staff within Crumbria Police to work up a joint “Hate Crime Action Plan.”
There’s even been talk of a “Community Tension Summit.”
All of which appears to have passed completely under the noses of news hounds toiling away for the News & Shrug.
